Philothea Missionary Society

Philothea Missionary Society is a public association of faithful in the Church established under the Code of Canon Law of the Catholic Church (312 # 3) consisting of priests, religious sisters, lay missionaries ,Jesus Youth, Friends of Philothea, St. Joseph Ministry, St. Rita Ministry, St. Jane de Chantal Ministry and other Associates. Following the spirituality of St. Francis de Sales, Philothea Missionary Society was founded in Kenya by Rev. Fr. George Kocholickal and Rev. Sr. Florence Philothea Kabbalah, a Philothea Missionary Sister, with His Lordship Rt. Rev. Maurice Muhatia Makumba as the Patron Bishop. The members are engaged in the apostolates of education, health, communication, family and youth ministry, social transformation, and ongoing formation of the laity, clergy and religious following the spirituality of St. Francis de Sales and the teachings of St. John Paul II.

Our Charism

The special charism of the Philothea Missionary Society is expressed primarily through the practice of two virtues, “Love and Holiness” lived in gentleness and charity. Inspired by the scripture on love of God and neighbour (Mark 12:28-31) and Our motto is “Love and love a lone is the hallmark of our spirituality” under the motto “Live Jesus, in our hearts”.

Mission Statement

Guided by the Scriptural teaching, “God is Love and everyone who loves is a child of God and knows God” (1Jn. 4:7) and our Mother’s cry, “They have no wine” (John 2:3), we strive to live the vocation to love God and come to aid of those in need. Our mission is to promote Love of God and Love of neighbour through the apostolates of education, health, communication, family and youth ministry, family life and youth empowerment programmes, publications and online media broadcasts.

Our Principal Patron Saints

The Philothea Missionary Society belongs in a special way to Christ, through the Holy Virgin Mary, and is assisted and guided by the saints St. Francis de sales, St. John Paul II, St. Joseph, Archangels Michael and Gabriel and other saints.

The principal patron of the Society is Saint Francis de Sales, the zealous pastor, teacher and doctor of the love of God. The society preserves and lives his inspirational teachings and apostolic zeal towards the lay faithful, especially the broken. Saint Jane Frances de Chantal is the patron of the prayer group bringing contemplative souls together in the worship of God and intercession for the needs of the Philothea family members. Saint Joseph, the beloved husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the foster father of Jesus is the patron of the Development Committee and of the Saint Joseph Group. Saint John Paul II, the Saint of the Family, is the principal patron of our Family Ministry and the College for Marriage and Family Studies. Saint Rita, the Saint of “impossible cases” is the patron Saint of the Saint Rita Group engaged in assisting the priestly and religion vocations and mission of the Philothea Missionary Society

Our Apostolates

We are here for the Christian education, ongoing formation and transformation of Christ’s Faithful. Philothea means “Lover of God,” and is the title that St Francis de Sales used to refer to all Christian faithful. We carry out our mission through our various apostolates:
